Staycation 2014

We've made it to the six week mark!  J.R. is slowly learning the workings of the Huguet house, including:

Saturday morning pancakes

J.R's first pancake breakfast - 5 days old

Lazy Sunday snuggles

Full of milk and soooo comfortable.... 2 weeks old

Relaxing baths

Bath time with Daddy - 5 weeks old

And he has even joined us on a few shopping trips!

First shopping trip - 10 days old

For the past week baby James has been extra spoiled with lots of snuggles, love, gifts, playtime, and adventures, which can only mean one thing: the grandparents are in town!  PawPaw and Grandma made their first trek to France and we all spent an entire week exploring the city, enjoying French wines, and soaking up as many baby cuddles as possible.

Meeting PawPaw for the first time

We didn't have the greatest weather all week, but we made the best of it and managed to get out of the apartment a few times with baby in tow.

Monday was a pizza lunch in the city, followed by a walk through the city centre and a stop at the Promenade du Peyrou.

Wednesday we attempted to take J.R. for his first beach trip, but the weather refused to cooperate, so after a quick ten minute walk, we called it quits and went for hot chocolate along the river instead.

Later that night Kerry and I took advantage of having grandparents in town... date night!  Our first (and probably last for a while) night out on the town, sans bebe.

Saying bye to J.R. for the evening

By Friday the weather was looking a little better, so we took our chances on a day trip out to St. Guilhem Le Desert, a beautiful little French village set in the Herault Gorges.  The village itself dates back to at least the 800's, and has been extremely well maintained to date.  It is home to only about 250 people, so when driving through, don't blink or you will miss it!

All smiles for his big day of sight seeing!

After a nice wander around St. Guilhem and it's abbey, we headed to the Pont du Diable, a 1000 year old bridge crossing the Herault River.  While a beautiful site to see at anytime of year, it becomes a very popular swimming spot during the warmer months.  It was cloudy and windy for our visit, but the deep green water of the river cutting through the light grey cliffs was still a sight to see.
VERY windy day!

On our last day with the grandparents we finally struck gold with the weather.  Not only did the sun come out, but the temperature was perfect and the light breeze made for an absolutely perfect day.  We spent some time enjoying the sun at the park and then filled up with a delicious lunch at Chez Boris, complete with glasses of Kir for the ladies and Pastis for the men.

We had a wonderful time hosting Grandma and PawPaw!  Staycation 2014 has officially ended, and I sure am going to miss having free on-call babysitters / house cleaners / chefs / diaper changers / errand runners / pretty much anything else we need whenever we need it.  I guess J.R. wasn't the only one getting spoiled this week!
